The First Week: About Me, About Paris, and About it all!

Bonjour!

So I'm here, sitting in my little room in Paris, thinking back on the past week and wondering how I got here. For those of you who don't know, I'll explain. My boyfriend, Karim, is here in Paris studying for the year, and due to special circumstances, I'm here too. I'm spending the time living, breathing, exploring, and eating, Paris! So this blog is my way of logging it all down. A Canadian's guide to living, and eating, in Paris. For those of you that care, this will be my way to update everyone, and provide useful hints and ideas for those who might be coming to Paris (hopefully to visit me!).

We started off staying at Aloha Hostel. It was a nice enough hostel, although the wifi was usually full and one of the staff had a giant stick up her giant bum, but it was our first mission to find an apartment. We found such a place in Le Shoebox (our playful, but true, nickname for our apartment). It's tiny, but well furnished and comfy. Our landlord is very nice, speaks English well enough, and is very accommodating. Our kitchen, if you can call it that, is in need of some help from IKEA (which is 45 minutes away from the city via train...) We currently have 1 Pot, 1 Pan, No spatula, some forks and spoon, a small pering knife and a couple plates... how I'm going to cook in this is a bit of an adventure, one that I'll keep you all up to date on. We currently reside in the 8th Arrondisment (or district), which is the tourist and Parisian shopping district. It's a good area and we've been trying to get out and explore it.

Since our first mission was an apartment, we haven't done much touristy things in the city of a million tourists. The one thing we did do was grab a baguette, some ham, and ohm nom nom in the gardens in front of the Eiffel Tower. It was, in a word, magical. I finally realized that I was in Paris sitting on a bench, eating a baguette, and just a few feet from the most recognizable landmark in the world.

This is a story of food, and folly, in the heart of the city of Paris! Read if you like, try the recipes, and keep in touch.

Stay Lovely,
Liz
